The Scholarship
Tuition support that lasts up to four years
The Neil McMackin Memorial Scholarship recognizes deserving South Carolina students and helps them afford a Clemson University education — with renewals available each year.
Eligibility
Who can apply
- Applicant must be a South Carolina resident.
- Applicant must be planning to attend Clemson University.
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or current Clemson student in good standing.
Preferences
Considered, but never required
These preferences reflect Neil's own interests. Students outside them are encouraged to apply and are awarded every year.
- Students pursuing biological sciences.
- Students involved in soccer, at any level of competition.
Four-Year Structure
An award that renews with the student
Recipients may receive support each year for up to four years while enrolled at Clemson. Renewal depends on continued enrollment, satisfactory academic standing, and an annual check-in with the committee.

Selection
How recipients are chosen
Every application is read by the scholarship committee. Finalists are selected on academic record, service, character, and financial need, with weight given to the essays.

Complete the online application and upload your documents.
2. Review
The committee reviews each application confidentially.
3. Finalists
Finalists may be invited for a short conversation.
4. Award
Recipients are announced and funds are sent to Clemson.
